  • 9:35 am - 9:55 am | Driving geospatial innovation in a unique collaborative environment

    Abstract

Geospatial and its convergence with other technologies – such as mainstream IT, AI and IoT – is crucial in responding and adapting to a global pandemic. More than ever before, stakeholders need to work together collaboratively to navigate the challenges using geospatial information and technology. The Singapore Land Authority is taking the lead in driving collaborative innovation through initiatives – under the Singapore Geospatial Masterplan – such as SLA’s industry centre, GeoWorks, the ongoing Singapore Geospatial Week and the 3D Singapore Sandbox. These initiatives bring us closer as a well-connected community, to tap into emerging technologies and to form collaborative partnerships with one another. As an ecosystem, we will be better positioned to keep pace with emerging trends, meet rapid technological needs, and adapt to our new realities, or the ‘new normal’.

  • 3:10 pm - 3:35 pm | Exploring personal geographies using GIS

    Abstract

Students’ prior experience is an important factor that influences their learning and success in school. Thus, revised geography syllabuses tap into students’ knowledge about the neighbourhoods that they live in, creating opportunities for them to investigate local places near their schools. The general aim is to help students mentally organise spatial information about people and nature, and use this information to problem solve effectively. In this presentation, two geography teachers explain how they use a variety of geospatial tools and combine spatial data from different sources, to create easy-to-use web maps and applications. These learning materials enable students to explore their everyday geographies, hone their spatial thinking abilities, and acquire useful GIS skills.
