Leading authority on GIS for public safety, Russ Johnson has more than three decades of experience across homeland security and public safety. He is a respected advisor to senior government officials, specialising in the use of location intelligence to support critical missions, and played a key role in the development of US standards for the use of GIS in incident management.
As the former Chief of Fire and Emergency Operations for Federal Lands in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, Russ oversaw the operation of a complex inter-agency dispatch centre, including the management of five field division chiefs. As the Type 1 National Incident Commander for the National Management Incident Team, Russ was responsible for managing complex disasters both inside and outside of the US.
