Getting started with ArcGIS Drone2Map

Strictly by pre-registration only

What is this course about?

ArcGIS Drone2Map is the desktop app for your geographic information system (GIS) drone mapping needs.

Use any modern drone to capture high-resolution imagery where and when you need it.

Immediately after the flight in the field, process images on your laptop and perform drone analytics on your natural-colour, thermal infrared or multispectral datasets.

As part of the ArcGIS system, Drone2Map provides easy access to a range of tools and capabilities for accurate mapping and geospatial analysis.

As a 2D and 3D photogrammetry app, Drone2Map lets you create the outputs you need — including orthomosaics, 3D point clouds and textured meshes — and then easily share them with your ArcGIS organisation for greater collaboration and awareness.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Create a project to download your drone imagery
  • Create and view 2D and 3D outputs
  • Make measurements, track changes and perform other analyses
  • Perform advanced spatial, temporal and spectral analysis
  • Share imagery outputs as feature layers, web maps, imagery layers, and more

What can I expect?

  • Course topics

    1. Working with Drone Data

    • Transform drone imagery into a 3D scene
    • Process raw drone imagery to create the 3D representation of an office building development
    • Visualise the flight path of a drone mission
    • Produce a point cloud and 3D textured mesh from drone imagery
    • Publish mesh to a 3D online scene
    • Share with stakeholders

    2. Create elevation models with drone imagery

    • Create 2D products from Drone imagery
    • Using DTM in ArcGIS Pro

    3. LiDAR and 3D Visualisation

    • Extract 3D buildings from LiDAR data
    • Create and classify a LAS dataset
    • Extract a digital elevation model (DEM)
    • Extract 2D building footprints
    • Generate 3D multipatch buildings

    4. Data Preparation
